“Souper” Bowl of Caring

“Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game,
help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat.”
“Souper” Bowl of Caring

A simple prayer, delivered in 1990 by then seminary intern Brad Smith, serving at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. The church’s youth group decided to invite other area churches to join their food drive. Twenty-two Columbia churches participated that first year, raising $5,700 for local area non-profits, and giving birth to the idea of Souper Bowl of Caring.

This youth-led movement has helped generate over $100 million in communities across the country. Souper Bowl of Caring works to mobilize people to fight hunger in their own communities. Young people take up a collection for people in need and donations go directly to a local charity of choice.

Our local charity of choice is Mission Centers of Houston. Through food pantries and emergency food assistance programs at Gano and Joy Mission Centers, they provide food assistance to over 30,000 people every year at no charge.

Our young people will take up a special offering at the end of the worship service.  You can also donate online by clicking HERE and selecting Missions Support Fund / Missions-Souper Bowl of Caring from the drop downs. Thank you for joining the fight against hunger!
